Note: this is a shorter update then usual, as I spent most of my time researching the impact of COVID-19 on broader mortality.
Deaths
1,124 new cases of coronavirus and 84 new deaths in New York, raising state total to 45,934 cases and 603 dead. Multiple fridge trucks have been reported being used to transport the corpses (link in Spanish).
In Madrid, 322 people died of COVID-19 yesterday, so many that they're converting another public building to a morgue (pic below). On an average day of 2018, there were 127 deaths in Madrid. 322 / 127 = 2.57. That's not even counting those who died from the virus but weren't counted in official statistics.
In Lombardy, 292 people die on an average March day. 541 died yesterday of COVID-19 alone (1.85x). That's not even counting those who died from the virus but weren't counted in official statistics.
More evidence of deaths undercounting (link, updated with evidence of Spanish undercounting).

I don't know how exactly it works in Italy,Spain,France but on every death there is being assigned a death-certificate, which contains age, location, cause (ICD10-code) and other things.
There are submitted to the central statistics agencies and collected and published annually.
In situations like this the statistical agencies may do some preliminary estimates, we should contact statistics Italy or (vital) statistics Lombardy ICD10-code U07.1 = COVID-19. Or maybe there is something in Italian newspapers or official statistics webpages in Italian
